Best School Supply Buys This Week

Posted on | July 11, 2010 | Comments Off

It’s time to start watching the local sales flyers for school supplies. Right now there are a lot of deals on stuff for college kids — bedding, desks, refrigerators, electronics, but we’re also starting to see sales on materials for K-12. Here is how I get what we need without letting the spending get out of control.

1. I’m actually tracking everything on the school supply list in a spreadsheet so I won’t forget what-to-buy-where when I’m shopping. I also have a column of estimated prices (based on what I remember being the lowest I’ve seen on something in the past).

2. I plan to make the rounds to several stores each week – snatching up their loss leaders. Getting the lowest prices means several trips – it won’t all be on sale during the same week.

3. When I think I’ve seen the lowest price, I’m going to buy – but will keep everything at home in a separate tote and hang onto receipts so I can return things if prices go lower later in the season.

Here are the best deals I’ve found for this week for the items on my list:

Walgreens (click for weekly ad)

Fiskars Scissors $0.99
Hand Pencil Sharpener $0.29
Expo Dry Erase Marker 4 pk $1.99

$2 Women’s & Girl’s Tank Tops

Posted on | June 11, 2010 | Comments Off

This Saturday only Old Navy will be offering Women’s and Girl’s Tank Tops for just $2. Get there early as these will sell out fast. Most stores open at 7 AM, but be sure to verify your store’s hours. Old Navy’s Facebook page has a tab titled “Barker’s Bones” there you can get a printable coupon to make for additional savings. This week I only found a $5 off of $50 and a $10 off of $50 there. Just refresh the page until you get the coupon you’re looking for.

Remember that you can also go purchase tanks at their current price and return on Saturday for a price adjustment. You will not be able to apply a coupon toward your adjusted price, but it is a good option if you can’t get there early on Saturday.
